back3Jamaica is a beautiful island in the Caribbean Sea south of Cuba with around 2,9 million inhabitants. It is a member state of the Commonwealth with Queen Elizabeth II as head of state, her representative is the Governor-General of Jamaica. Over one million tourists per year visit Jamaica to enjoy the sunshine, the clean fresh air, the crystal clear water, the outstanding natural beauty of the island and the upright treatment. Jamaica is exporter of bauxite, alumina, sugar, bananas, coffee, rum, yams and other products as well. Many talented sportsmen and -women, especially in track & field, are of Jamaican origin.

Jamaicans have created the Sound system, different styles of music like Ska, Rock Steady, Reggae Dub, Dancehall and Ragga. In Jamaica the charismatic third world leader Hon. Michael Manley was born, further the Hon. Marcus Mosiah Garvey who became an inspirational personality for civil rights activists, the Hon. Robert Nesta Marley who has made Reggae music be known in the world, the Hon.”Nanny“, Queen of the Maroons and folk hero of Jamaica and many more to mention.

The other side of the coin is that every 5th Jamaican lives below poverty line.Because of poverty the island is a breeding ground for violent crime.
